Horror scribe Kevin Williamson and director Wes Craven (“Last House on the Left”) go back to the well for a second — make that third, if you count Williamson’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” — time. Instead of deconstructing Craven’s slasher (“Nightmare on Elm Street”) genre, as they did in the previous installment, the gore duo disembowel the original, by turning reporter Gale Weathers’ (Courteney Cox of “Friends” fame) “Scream” experience into a movie within a movie, entitled “Stab,” while Sidney (Neve Campbell of TV’s “Party of Five”), has put her “Scream” trauma behind her and packed off to college.
Naturally the premiere of “Stab” inspires a copycat killer to come after Sidney and that’s when the film finally kicks into gear as a bevy of unwary coeds get eviscerated in the hallways of higher education. “Scream 2” isn’t nearly as fresh, suspenseful or witty as it’s inaugural bloodfest, but it does offer enough blood and breasts to keep Craven and Williamson in business for a few more arterial sprays.
Its great blend of humor, and horror attracted me the most, and kept me into this movie. Easily one of the best horror movie sequels of all-time! Nice post, check out my review when you can!
