BIBBY AND THE PHONE JOB

By Charles Martin | July 6, 2000

Short filmmaking 101: If you haven’t got a gimmick, go for cheap, or smutty, laughs. If you want a guaranteed festival (and nowhere else) hit, go for both. Thus we come to Bibby and the Phone Job. Corky Quakenbush has seemingly done a million of these dirty little shorts, and in this one Barbie (oops, I mean Bibby) has a very naughty husband who can’t seem to pay the bills, so she takes up phone sex as a vocation. Her amusing innocence and the not-too-surprising ending are amusing, but after a stretch of these you’ll definitely feel that Corky needs to outgrow playing with dolls.
