DEADCENTER 2007 – INDIE MOVIE PARKING LOT

Full day yesterday, which – after obtaining food and replenishing my depleted fluids – was a blast. Reviews are up for A Crude Awakening: The Oil Crash (go ahead an by those Hummers kids, it won’t matter), Shut Up and Ride (Bullriding: it’s not just for rednecks anymore), and Big Story in a Small City (AKA Weekend at Bernie’s Big Fat Armenian Funeral). Also checked out the horror shorts program (reviews pending) and Lilah Vandenburgh’s sublimely hilarious Bitch. Also got to meet the Divine Ms. V at the evening party.

The evening’s festivities took place at the IAO Gallery. More specifically, outside the gallery. First on the sidewalk, then in the parking lot across the street. Coolers of beer were on hand, courtesy of Todd, husband to festival programming director extraordinnaire Melissa. Much alcohol was consumed, and I got a ride back to the hotel from Rainbow Around the Sun director Kevin Ely, thereby eliminating the need for yours truly to urinate in one of OKC’s many fine alleys. Thanks, Kevin!

Tonight I’m seeing Groundhog Crossing, then attending an outdoor screening of UFOs at the Zoo, the movie of the legendary 2006 Flaming Lips concert at OKC’s Zoo Ampitheater. Favorite son Wayne Coyne will be in attendance to introduce the film as well. After that, it’s either the after party at some Italian place, or a late-night tour of some of the city’s lesser known establishments, which some of the festival folk have decided I simply must visit.

Ta for now. And if you don’t hear from me tomorrow, know I died happy.
