One day, instead of 24-hour A Christmas Story marathons, perhaps we’ll get to see Black Christmas marathons. Not buying it? Okay, yeah, the original may’ve be inspirational to Carpenter’s Halloween, but since the release of Scream ten years ago, any film involving phone calls, a serial killer and young female victims feels pointless.
Children of Men
The human race becomes infertile, save one woman, and Clive Owen has to escort her to safety so that the secret of her pregnancy can be discovered and the human race can be saved. 28 Days Later bleakness coupled with yet another wintery “Chosen One” story makes this the only real cinematic choice for Christmas Day.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
Any trailer that opens with a creepy, finger-sniffing baby has my attention. Add that the flick is directed by Tom Tykwer, starring the guy who played Pingu from Nathan Barley and I’m there, regardless of how non-holiday the subject matter of the film is.

Of all the films left to come in 2006, Guillermo Del Toro’s fantastical tale of post-war Spain is the one I’m most looking forward to. Sure, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Hellboy, but The Devil’s Backbone was brilliant, and this film looks more like the latter than the former.
