Opening night at the 2007 CineVegas Film Festival showcased Steven Soderbergh’s “Ocean’s Thirteen,” complete with special appearances by Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon and Carrot Top. Yes… Carrot Top.
More than just the screening of the film, however, the evening was also a part of a fundraiser for the Not On Our Watch’s Darfur Initiative, which exists to support current humanitarian relief efforts and ensure civilian protection in the region. The evening’s fundraising amounted to one million dollars, though co-founder of the initiative, and film producer, Jerry Weintraub stated that even more money had come in. Weintraub was also on hand for, and the recipient of, a special award from the CineVegas Film Festival, the Vanguard Producer Award.
