DUKAKIS GOES "UNDER THE APPLE TREE"

By Film Threat Staff | October 12, 2000

Leslie La Page is set to film her debut directorial effort, “Under the Apple Tree,” with screen veteran Olympia Dukakis. Dukakis, an Academy Award winner of Best Supporting Actress honors for her impressive turn in “Moonstruck,” is also instantly recognizable to audiences the world over for her rich, and funny, performances in films like “Steel Magnolias,” “The Cemetary Club” and “Working Girl”.
La Page’s “Apple Tree” is the late-World War II-era story of Louisa, played by Dukakis — an eccentric film star from the silent movie days who is called in to aid Harry and Jack Warner with a studio “situation” involving a delusional starlet with the notion that she’s been impregnated by Errol Flynn. Louisa, a virtual shut-in at her palatial estate since the fade of her career and the death of her husband, takes the younger woman in as a boarder, and the two actresses’ lives begin to mingle…and change for the better.
“Under the Apple Tree” will launch production early next year, and is helmed by Infinity Films. Check back for more on this new indie release.
