BYOD: BRING YOUR OWN DOC – EPISODE 67: SUNDANCE 2013 PREVIEW WITH PROGRAMMERS DAVID COURIER & CAROLINE LIBRESCO
As Sundance is set to premier a wave of films that will define 2013, BYOD welcomes festival curators David Courier and Caroline Libresco to show some of the best. We talk about over a dozen of the movies scheduled to show this year.
They also offer some advice to filmmakers on submitting their work, and how to know when a film is really ‘done.’
Watch new episodes of BYOD live each week on Tuesdays at noon on TheLip.TV, or tune in for the archived replay starting here on the following Thursday.
BYOD is hosted by Ondi Timoner, director of “DIG!,” “JOIN US” and “WE LIVE IN PUBLIC,” and has the rare distinction of winning the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance twice. Each week the show explores a different documentary filmmaker or aspect of filmmaking, with special guests and a live Q&A– diving deep into creative process and the business realities of producing and distributing films. Ondi shares her insider views, opinions, and personal stories, welcoming audience participation. BYOD aims to entertain, inform, and elevate documentaries in general by bringing attention to films and film makers that deserve exposure.
David Courier is the senior programmer for the Sundance Film Festival as well as the writer and producer of the Sundance Awards Ceremony. David has been with the festival for 12 years, since 2000, and focuses on US and World Documentaries.
Caroline Libresco is feature film programmer for the Sundance Film Festival, where she coordinates the World Cinema program. Prior to joining Sundance, she was a programming and communications specialist for the Independent Television Service (ITVS). She was also associate director of the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, senior publicist for the San Francisco International Film Festival and development director at U.C. Berkeley and the Library Foundation of San Francisco. She has served on juries at Silverdocs and the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival, and on the funding panel for IFP’s Radziwill Documentary Fund.
