FILM THREAT’S TOP 25 DOCS THAT ROCK

16. RIVERS AND TIDES: ANDY GOLDSWORTHY WORKS WITH TIME
Who knew that a film about a guy playing with rocks and sticks could be so fantastic?

Andy Goldsworthy makes his work out of stone, sticks, ice and whatever else he can get his hands on. His most striking pieces are these oversized pinecone shapes he creates out of pieces of stone. Standing at the side of the road, one of these creations tends to look like a sign from an alien being. It’s just so bizarre because of its placement and the fact that it looks like it took inhuman patience to put it together.

17. THE SAME RIVER TWICE
It’s a no-brainer that this film will appeal to the middle-aged crowd who indulged in the ‘60s and ’70s proper. But even for a youngun like myself, I found the film thoroughly entertaining and was even laughing out loud along with the rest of the audience. Congratulations to Robb Moss for making such a crowd-pleaser. But more importantly, congratulations to Moss for having such interesting friends.

18. SAVING THE INDIAN HILLS
Watch the struggle to save a movie theater from being turned into a parking lot.

19. SCRABYLON
Scott Peterson’s charming and funny new documentary “Scrabylon” makes its backdrop the 2001 World Scrabble Championship in Las Vegas, NV, where one hundred of the top Scrabble players in the country gather to compete for the grand prize of $25,000, a loving cup from Tiffany, and the adulation of their fellow players.

20. SPEEDO
Speedo is kinda like the new Dancing Outlaw, just less tragic, and with a bit more going on in that dome of his.

This addictive documentary follows Ed “Speedo” Jager as he competes in the country’s biggest demolition car derbies. Speedo takes the game of demolition just a little more seriously than other drivers do, destroying everyone in his path and leaving a mass of pissed off drivers sitting in their smoking wrecks all around him.
