BYOD: BRING YOUR OWN DOC – EPISODE 138: “FOR NO GOOD REASON” – RALPH STEADMAN DOCUMENTARY FROM 2014 SXSW FILM FESTIVAL
Ralph Steadman has been one of the most striking and instantly recognizable artists of the last 100 years, and FOR NO GOOD REASON is the documentary that illustrates his ascent and impact. Director Charlie Paul shares the film direct from the 2014 SXSW festival, and discusses the collaboration with Johnny Depp on Steadman, who brought image to the psychedelic shotgun blast genius of Hunter S. Thompson. All on BYOD, the world’s only all documentary talk show, hosted by Ondi Timoner.
Watch new episodes of BYOD live each week on Tuesdays at noon on TheLip.TV, or tune in for the archived replay starting here on the following Thursday.

Ondi shares her insider views, opinions, and personal stories, welcoming audience participation. BYOD aims to entertain, inform, and elevate documentaries in general by bringing attention to films and film makers that deserve exposure.
FOR NO GOOD REASON is a richly creative, visual feast of a film about the power and importance of art to achieve Steadman’s aim “I learnt to draw…to try to change the world”. Director Charlie Paul spent 15 years meticulously amassing the footage and creating the remarkable animations for the film to match the same anarchic energy, anger and free spirit of Steadman’s pictures. It is riot of stories and images that literally blast out of the screen as we take a trip through the wild and dark days of Steadman’s time and consignments with ‘Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas’ writer Hunter S Thompson, the Rumble in the Jungle, gun fights with literary giant William S Burroughs and his fiercely heart-felt politics.
Charlie Paul has been directing commercials and music videos in London for 20 years. He began in animation with an acclaimed short film ‘Faroe Islands’ featuring Anthony Hopkins for the voice over. During his career, Charlie’s work has been internationally recognized with over thirty Advertising awards.
