Harmontown is the new documentary that follows the cross country staging of the podcast of the same name. Dan Harmon and his supporting crew of comedic masterminds are featured in the doc that goes behind the production, and shared with BYOD direct from SXSW with clips, the trailer and explanation courtesy of director Neil Berkeley.
Watch new episodes of BYOD live each week on Tuesdays at noon on TheLip.TV, or tune in for the archived replay starting here on the following Thursday.
BYOD is hosted by Ondi Timoner, director of “DIG!,” “JOIN US” and “WE LIVE IN PUBLIC,” and has the rare distinction of winning the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance twice. Each week the show explores a different documentary filmmaker or aspect of filmmaking, with special guests and a live Q&A– diving deep into creative process and the business realities of producing and distributing films. Ondi shares her insider views, opinions, and personal stories, welcoming audience participation. BYOD aims to entertain, inform, and elevate documentaries in general by bringing attention to films and film makers that deserve exposure.
HARMONTOWN is a documentary film starring TV writer and producer Dan Harmon (NBC’s “Community”, Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty”) as he takes his popular podcast of the same name on a calamitous cross-country tour. Much more than a comedy-tour documentary, the film directed by Neil Berkeley uncovers Harmon’s public persona to reveal his complex character and his equally complex personal relationships. The supporting cast includes Jeff B. Davis (“Whose Line is it Anyway?”), Erin McGathy (“This Feels Terrible”) and Spencer Crittenden.
Neil Berkeley has been working in film and television for over ten years as a design producer for several documentaries including The Cool School, Johnny Cash’s America, Air Guitar Nation and Respect Yourself: The Story of Stax Records. He has also operated his design-based production company, BRKLY, since the summer of 2009.
