In a conversation punctuated by clips and trailers from his highly influential films, we talk about the political impact of documentary, as well as the artistic decisions that go into making social messages emotional for a larger audience in this uncensored BYOD interview hosted by Ondi Timoner.

Watch new episodes of BYOD live each week on Tuesdays at noon on TheLip.TV, or tune in for the archived replay starting here on the following Thursday.

ABOUT BYOD:
BYOD is hosted by Ondi Timoner, director of “DIG!,” “JOIN US” and “WE LIVE IN PUBLIC,” and has the rare distinction of winning the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance twice. Each week the show explores a different documentary filmmaker or aspect of filmmaking, with special guests and a live Q&A– diving deep into creative process and the business realities of producing and distributing films. Ondi shares her insider views, opinions, and personal stories, welcoming audience participation. BYOD aims to entertain, inform, and elevate documentaries in general by bringing attention to films and film makers that deserve exposure.

GUEST BIO:
Robert Greenwald turned to documentary filmmaking in 2002, inspired by pervasive voter rights abuses in the 2000 U.S. presidential election. He founded Brave New Films to support his documentary efforts with both traditional theatrical and TV distribution, as well as new media strategies. The documentaries produced by Brave New Films have been streamed across all seven continents and have been viewed over 70 million times and counting.

At BNF, Greenwald has produced and directed eight full-length documentaries and over a dozen short videos, uncovering corporate abuse, the military industrial complex, the unbridled political influence of billionaires, and the unfair and unbalanced tactics of Fox News. His full-length features include; Uncovered: The War on Iraq (2004); Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism (2004); Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price (2005); Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers (2006); Rethink Afghanistan (2009); Koch Brothers Exposed (2012); and War on Whistleblowers: Free Press and the National Security State (2013). Unmanned: America’s Drone Wars (2013) is BNF’s latest feature-length documentary.
