The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary on March 7 – 15, 2003 in Austin, Texas.
The SXSW Film Festival will present the world premiere of Ron Mann’s “Go Further,” starring Woody Harrelson and the North American premiere of Scott Roberts’ “The Hard Word,” starring Guy Pearce. To honor the 10th anniversary of the festival, SXSW Film will feature a retrospective of some of its most memorable films of the last decade, including Richard Linklater’s “It’s Impossible to Learn to Plow by Reading Books,” George Huang’s “Swimming With Sharks,” Tim McCanlies’ “Dancer, TX Pop. 81,” and Aviva Kempner’s The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg. In addition, the festival program will include the latest works from filmmaking newcomers as well as industry veterans with premieres, special screenings, and competition films in the categories of narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, and music video.
SXSW Film 2003 panel topics will include “Responsible Filmmaking,” “Film Journalism,” “Shorts: Practice Makes Perfect?” and “Filmmaking In The Digital Age.” Panelists include Michael Barker (co-president, Sony Pictures Classics), Bob Berney (president, Newmarket Films), Jeff Gordinier (editor-at-large, Details Magazine), Ann Hornaday (critic, The Washington Post), Harry Knowles (founder, Ain’t It Cool News), Robert Rodriguez (director, “El Mariachi”, Spy Kids) and our own Chris Gore.
Registering for the conference has multiple advantages. In addition to having access to the panels and workshops and priority access to the film festival, SXSW Film registrants will be able to attend the Film Awards, a huge joint Film/Interative Exhibition, and SXSW sponsored parties. Also available to registrants from January to December of each year is the Online Registrants’ directory, an invaluable listing of the film industry professionals attending SXSW. All of these things together create an unparalleled opportunity for doing business.
