CUCALORUS MAKES EARLY ANNOUNCEMENT

Cucalorus announces early selections for its Ninth Annual Festival of Independent Film to be held in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina, March 19-23, 2003. So far, twenty-three films have been selected to screen at the annual festival, which has an underground reputation as a ‘summer camp’ for filmmakers. MovieMaker Magazine recently dubbed the festival “the best kept secret on the indie fest circuit” and the Southeast Tourism Society awarded the festival Top Twenty Event status for the second year in a row.
Among the films selected are The Backyard, Morning Breath, and Jessica Villines’ “Plaster Caster,” a documentary on the eccentric life and art of Cynthia Plaster Caster, a woman who made a name for herself by casting the penises of rock stars.
The final festival schedule will be released mid-February, along with the entire line-up of activities for the five-day celebration of independent film. The final schedule will include about 60 films, selected from over 400 submissions.
