The Rhode Island International Film Festival will be presenting more than 175 different international film titles at multiple locations in Providence and throughout Rhode Island; August 9-13, 2000
Now in its fourth year, the BROOKS Pharmacy Providence/Rhode Island International Film Festival has an even more exciting and expanded program lined-up for this year. Along with major world premiere film exhibition, the Festival will present the very best in video and multi-media work by local and regional artists. In all, more than one hundred seventy-five titles will be screened at multiple locations in Providence and throughout Rhode Island during the Festival’s five-day run. Along with forums, special educational programs and colloquia featuring film industry professionals, the Festival will present several special-themed film exhibitions including: [ From the North Country ] (films from Canada), [ Overlooked Treasures ] (films that deserved a bigger audience), [ First Look ](Premieres), [ Reel Images ] (a retrospective of a well-know actor), [ New Directors Showcase, Documentaries: Truth with an Attitude, Hip Hot and Short Program, KidsEyeâ„¢ ] (films made for and about children), plus the [ Secret Cinema ] (the premiere of an as yet unreleased film).
This year, more than 541 films have been entered in competition representing 32 countries and 35 states in the US. The Festival’s Honorary Millennial Chairman is Governor Lincoln Almond with actress Concetta Tomei of the television series, Providence. The President/Chairman of the Festival is Michel Coutu, CEO of Brooks Pharmacy. George T. Marshall is the Festival Executive Director and Elisabeth Newberry Galligan is the Festival Managing Director.
