The Austin Film Society presents QT Quattro, the fourth annual Quentin Tarantino Film Festival, from August 25 through September 3, 2000, at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, 409 Colorado Street in downtown Austin. Mr. Tarantino will be present throughout the festival in the 225-seat venue, which serves food and drink during the show.
The maverick “king of cool” director-who burst onto the international film scene with “Reservoir Dogs,” followed by the smash hits “Pulp Fiction” and “Jackie Brown,”-curates the festival from his personal collection and introduces each film. Benefiting the Austin Film Society’s program fund, the Quentin Tarantino Festival has become a unique Austin tradition. During the festival, the theater becomes Mr. Tarantino’s extended living room, into which he invites devotees to enjoy films from the action, adventure, epic, exploitation and horror genres, not to mention fascinating sub-genres like “Jaws rip-offs.”
The marathon is enlivened by Mr. Tarantino’s knowledgeable and enthusiastic commentary as well as his off-beat collection of movie trailers. Most films are from the 60s and 70s, although a few surprises from the 90s are usually included. In between films, Mr. Tarantino enjoys visiting with filmgoers about the featured programs.
