NO DANCE FILM FESTIVAL
No Sun, no Slam, No Dance. It’s not the official rallying cry of the No Dance Film & Multimedia Festival, but it could be. Tucked away between Slamdance and Slamdunk HQs in a mall on Main Street — an appropriate location, given their approximate spot on the fill-in-the-blank-dance pecking order — this self-proclaimed “World’s First DVD-Projected Film Festival” was held January 22-25. Following three days of short and feature screeings, including the delicious idea of “walk-in screenings,” on a wide screen TV, No Dance, now in its third year, commandeered the Gateway Center for their competition screenings and Closing Night Party. There, a crowd of about 250 mostly young and obviously close-knit filmmakers and friends, gathered for free drinks, dancing and, not incidentally, the Awards Ceremony. Patrick Hasson’s “Waiting” won the festival’s Audience Award, while “Cons,” directed by the singularly named Fant, won the No Dance Grand Jury Award for best film.
