ASIAN FILM IN AURORA FOR 2005

The Eighth Aurora Asian Film Festival will be held June 2 – June 5 at the Aurora Fox Arts Center (9900 E. Colfax Avenue) in Aurora. The Festival, presented by the Denver Film Society, the Aurora Asian/Pacific Community Partnership and the City of Aurora, will feature 10 new films from Pacific Rim countries including Thailand, China, Japan, South Korea, India and the Philippines.
In addition to the regular-priced film screenings, the Festival will host a special Opening Night (Thursday, June 2) premiere of the Chinese film ELECTRIC SHADOWS at 7:00 p.m. This film, directed by young filmmaker Xiao Jiang, offers a stirring exploration of the troubled lives of unwanted children where destinies are intertwined and hopes for love turn to tragedy.
Closing Night will feature the comedic film CRYING LADIES which was 2004’s Philippine submission for Best Foreign Film Oscar. This warm comedy shows one way to ensure enough mourners at a loved one’s funeral is to hire a few! Tradition also says tears, no matter whose, assure the deceased’s rise to heaven.
For a second year in a row, the festival will present a free, outdoor film screening at the sunken garden in front of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library and Municipal Services Center, located at 9898 East Colfax Ave. PRINCESS MONONOKE, will be featured on Saturday, June 4th at dusk, approximately 8:45pm. Filmgoers are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to the screening and will be able to purchase food from vendors set-up on the Plaza.
