The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival has unveiled its complete lineup of shorts for the 2006 edition, March 10-18, in Austin, TX. The festival will host 130 short films from around the globe, divided into various sections and competitions.
The shorts include new work by recognizable names such as TV personality Maria Menounos, actor/comedian Bob Odenkirk, Sky High director Mike Mitchell, and the folks at DreamWorks Animation. In addition, there will be programs curated by Jamaica’s Flashpoint Film & Music Festival as well as Scotland’s Edinburgh Film Festival.
“This year’s SXSW shorts are a showcase of international talent, “ says Festival Producer Matt Dentler. “From young filmmakers in Jamaica to animators plugging away on their own, to some big names getting behind the camera, it’s all an exciting variety of art.”
SXSW will also continue three popular shorts programs that are rare in the world of festivals today. These include: the Texas High School Shorts section (showcasing work by state-wide teenagers), the Midnight Shorts program (an irreverent collection of shorts that are for “adults only”), and the Music Video competition (a global display of collaborations between musicians and filmmakers). Some of the artists with music videos in the program include Sleater-Kinney, Plastilina Mosh, Laura Veirs, and many more.
