FOR A GOOD TIME, CHECK OUT THE FLICKER FILM FESTIVAL

The latest installment of Austin’s only quarterly celebration of celluloid will be held on Thursday, August 24th. The evening’s program will commence at 7:00 p.m. at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown, near the corner of 4th and Colorado.

This past May saw the HBMG Foundation hosting its first ever Flicker Film Festival. Flicker, already a staple in the Austin community for more than 5 years, is a natural fit with the HBMG Foundation, an organization that promotes the creative process and offers programs that develop, nurture, and provide professional benefit to emerging artists and innovators. Matthew Cornelius, the new coordinator of Flicker, noted that “Flicker continues to offer an excellent platform on which gifted filmmakers can be seen and heard on a national level. The HBMG Foundation has laid the groundwork for continued successes, which keeps festivals such as this alive, energized, and groundbreaking.” Audiences at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown were regaled with shorts from local filmmakers Nathan Christ, Avram Dodson, and Annie Simpson. As the night drew to a close, the audience selected the coming of age short “The Girls of Elizabeth Street” as their favorite, adding Iowa filmmaker Tad Davis’ piece to the 2006 Best of Flicker DVD.
