The Eighth Annual Short Attention Span Film & Video Festival is proud to announce the winners of SASFVF 2000! The award for best short went to not one but to a collection of 5 short films from San Francisco filmmaker Lev Yilmaz, who picked up $2,500 for “Good Looking”, “Pickle”, “Cigarettes”, “Red Rum” and “Mr. Dot Com”, all part of an ongoing series entitled “Tales of Mere Existence”. Beth Lonergan’s “Wave Hands Like Clouds” was awarded a $1,000 cash prize for Best Animated Short and Adam Jordan’s “Toy Troubles” received an honorable mention from this year’s jury members, which included indie producer/cineBLAST! editor Gill Holland, IMAGE Film & Video Center Festival/Exhibitions Director, Genevieve McGillicuddy, and Skizz Cyzyk, founder and director of Baltimore’s MicroCineFest. A $1,000 cash prize for Audience Favorite will be determined by festival goers during SASFVF’s 14 city U.S. tour, which premiered April 1 at San Francisco’s historic Castro Theatre and will continue to travel this Spring to Oakland, Portland, Seattle, Atlanta, Athens, Savannah, Beaufort, Tucson, Washington D.C., New York, New Orleans, Brookline, and Los Angeles. The Audience Choice prize will be announced on www.shortspan.com at the close of the festival tour.
All cash awards were donated by the festival’s premiere sponsor, Los Angeles based Dreamspan, an online entertainment network recently founded by SASFVF executive director Beth Hall and partner Andy Schachtel. SASFVF would also like to recognize this year’s city sponsors which include commercial production company Departure Lounge, Atlanta internet company 3 Squared, and online film site IFILM.
Established in 1991, SASFVF is the oldest international showcase of its kind for short, short works. A special thanks to everyone who submitted to this year’s festival! SASFVF 2000 lineup is the best yet, featuring nearly 70 short films from the U.S. and around the world! For more information on this year’s festival, visit www.sasfvf.com
