Thirty emerging filmmakers are getting the chance to exhibit their work at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival thanks to a program being offered by and production house DEFCON Entertainment.
This is the first time independent film makers have been offered such an all-encompassing package – which includes screening time at the Palais in Cannes to show their short film, accreditation to the world renowned Film Festival, access to the “Market Club,” accommodations in Cannes and even airfare from New York. The trip runs from May 15 -29 and costs $2,000. One lucky student will receive the package free of charge through a scholarship being offered by the organizers.
“Go Gonzo At Cannes” organizer Jacob Shwirtz – founder and CEO of – says this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for film students.
“As a film graduate myself, I know how much students would learn from a project like this. It is a great opportunity not only to expose your work to other film-makers, but also to make invaluable contacts in all aspects of the film industry,” says Shwirtz.
The package is limited to 30 students, and places are already filling up in advance of the March 15th application deadline. For next year’s Festival, the organizers hope double the number of places available as well as offer additional perks.
In addition to the information on the program itself, the website also offers a Cannes Film Festival Resource Guide – packed with information, hints and tips for getting the most out of the Festival. Regardless of how people get to Cannes, this Guide is an invaluable resource for first-time attendees.
