RESFEST TOUR 2002

Music videos and two features will join the line-up of shorts presented at RESFEST 2002. Also, the festival will host a retrospective of the works of music video director Chris Cunningham (Aphex Twin, Bjork).
The “Cinema Electronica” program, which showcases the results of collaboration of top electronic musicians and innovative filmmakers, has developed over the past six years as one of the most popular programs at the festival, consistently selling out San Francisco’s 1,000-seat Palace of Fine Arts and other venues on the festival tour.
Highlights of this year’s “Cinema Electronica” program include Wong Kar-Wai’s video of DJ Shadow’s “Six Days,” Nick Knight’s uncensored version of Bjork’s “Pagan Poetry,” the RES-commissioned Zero 7 video “Destiny” by Tommy Pallotta, the aggro-anime-revolt of Shynola’s “Eye for an Eye” for UNKLE, and finally Traktor’s suitably fitting picture to the booming sound of Basement Jaxx’s “Where’s Your Head At?”. Recognizing the surge in conceptual rock videos, RESFEST will add a new program entitled “Videos that Rock” featuring The White Stripes’ “Fell in Love with a Girl” by Michel Gondry and StyleWar’s “Sweet N Sour” for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and “It’s Not the End of the World” (Super Furry Animals) by Numéro 6.
Each year, RESFEST supplements its extensive short form programming with a handful of exceptional feature film work. In years past, the festival has showcased many superb full-length films, namely Doug Pray’s hip hop DJ documentary Scratch, Richard Linklater’s Waking Life, as well as “Sam the Man” by Gary Winick. This year, RESFEST is proud to present two features to be showcased with the shorts and music videos: “Breath Control” and “Fulltime Killer.”
“Breath Control: The History of the Human Beat Box” focuses on beat box pioneers Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie and the Fat Boys as they discuss how the human voice can become an incredibly powerful percussive instrument.
“Fulltime Killer” is Johnny To’s newest violent epic boasting hypnotically beautiful sequences and hyperkinetic action scenes, making a nice fit in the RESFEST line-up.
RESFEST tour schedule:
September 18-22 – Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco
October 16-20 – Tishman Auditorium, New York
October 30 – November 3 – The Egyptian Theatre, Los Angeles
