With a modest budget and a lot of vision, the non-profit Brooklyn Underground Film Festival (BUFF) will define itself as the pre-eminent new voice in independent film showcases. Scheduled for October 10th-13th, it promises to offer the over-saturated festival circuit a fresh breath of Brooklyn air—a truly new, truly outstanding program awaits.
Brooklyn Underground Film Festival was conceived of by Josh Koury, Cris Moris and Myles Kane, three recent film grads, who sought to create a forum for unique filmmaking that they felt was under represented in the festival circuit. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the festival is a “labor of love”, everyone involved is dedicated to the vision that BUFF represents.
BUFF will screen 80 of the 600 plus films submitted to the festival, 69 of them being premieres.
The films represent the spectrum: from traditional film and video making, to animation and computer-generated mixed-media work. Because of the great diversity of the talent represented, the festival has been invited to join several travelling film showcases.
The festival will be housed in a beautiful 4,200 square-foot glass-enclosed Storefront at 1 Main Street on the corner of Water Street in DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) Brooklyn, an ideal setting. DUMBO has been home to artists and innovators since the 1970’s.
The space will accommodate a 120 seat screening room for the film programs, a space for socializing with featured filmmakers, festival goers and industry professionals and an adjoining gallery space will house live video performances and installations.
An opening night film program will precede a kick-off party on Thursday, October 10th, which will launch the four day film forum. Friday and Saturday will each feature 5 programs a day running approximately 75 minutes in length.
