Didn't make it this year unfortunatly as I was on my Hols but a couple of years back I met Paul Verhoeven who explained the real ending to Total recall.
Turns out that the guy from Recall who Arnie shoots in the head, after seeing the bead of sweat, is actually telling the truth. The rest of the film takes place in Arnies fevered imagination and the fade to white at the end signifies his mind going.
