and the way i remember it was that bush agreed to exile for saddam using a saudi plan which would have left the iraqi people in a big pile of shit: no leader to take to court for all the human rights offences he committed, a new bunch of iraqi generals running the ship...
here's how i recall events and once again NO MENTION OF OIL. IN FACT THE ONLY PEOPLE I EVER HEAR MENTION OIL IS SATIRISTS LIKE YOU AND ER... BIG OIL COMPANIES IN GERMANY, FRANCE THE UK AND THE ... USA.
(I have never opposed the war because i think its about oil? i oppose the war because i am a pacifist, opposed to war, its not a popular idea, but by applying intelligence people can avoid it)
Famous shit quote from asshole with no sense of history on his doorstep: “BAGHDAD, its people and leadership, is determined to force the Mongols of our age to commit suicide at its gates.” Saddam Hussein.
Bush repeatedly made it clear that for Sadam, time was running out. The Iraqi leader, Bush said, has shown no signs that he was ready to come clean and give up all his weapons of mass destruction. If he doesn't then, “we will disarm him,” Bush warned.
UN weapons inspectors discovered empty rocket warheads that could deliver deadly chemical agents like nerve gas or anthrax. So Saddam destroyed them.
for whatever reason washington and us lot withheld comment on the discovery.
Jan. 27, the world would know if Bush was truly committed to war. That was the day when the UN inspectors would report back to the UN Security Council whether they had any evidence that Saddam was lying through his teeth and had not discarded his weapons of mass destruction.
There were observers of course who said that the deadline for reporting didnt matter and that the US would go on and attack whatever, or even preemptively. doesn’t matter anymore. reasons for going to war when you have won never do. but leaving iraq unstable, with a corrupt administration appointed by bremmer really should.
It looks like he has no option left but to face the wrath of the US. That could mean the obliteration of the Iraqi army and untold suffering for the Iraqi people. Or he could accept exile under a plan Saudi Arabia is said to be cooking up as a way of preventing more mayhem in the Gulf.
According to Time magazine, the Saudi plan involves Iraqi generals overthrowing Saddam and his inner circle. If the takeover plot is successful, Saddam would be offered exile. This would have left the Saudi's, the home of the 9/11 terrorists and one of the biggest tourture states n the middle east with incredible, enormous influence in the region, the plan was always a long shot, but one that Bush did contemplate: the suggestion otherwise, that it might have been a smoke screen is insulting to the 10,000 plus civilians who are believed to have lost their lives as a consequence of the war so far.
It would have saved lives and restored order in the Gulf (thats what the corrupt saudi regime kept saying, but i'll bet collatoral damage, i mean civilians, on the ground in iraq were glad to hear it, too), in other countries that are now aggressive to the ever changing US Foreign Policy... so Bush and co. gave it due thought, the saudi's, our greatest allies in the region sat back and told the arab world that things might go well... and all hell broke loose, Iraq was invaded and now deaths are occuring on both sides that needn't have.
though a corrupt regime has indeed been toppled, Blair likes to holiday in egypt and saudi arabia is still in power with a dictatorship that dominates and divides. there are plenty of other corrupt regimes that get our support, our weapons and our chemicals. the axis of evil was a rubbish invention post war.
