View Full Version : Joaquin Phoenix as the Man in Black?
So, he's going to play Johnny Cash. Not sure what I think about that! He was great in "Gladiator" and "Signs". I guess maybe he doesn't look like him to me. Maybe this will be his way into the Oscar door! Reese Witherspoon however, as June Carter Cash? PULEEZE.
I love biopics...I am really looking forward to this. :)

he's great in everything cuz he's hot. speciallly in quills as a priest.
whats this johnny cash buisness? are they making a movie? i hope not - cuz if they fuck it up it would be a real shame.
Totally...I think i read it on cnn today as well as IMDB. Joaquin is a brilliant actor, really he is, but JC (not Jesus but Johnny Cash) is a very distinctive individual and this will be a hard role for anyone to play. reese witherspoon is way too young to be JJC. They were older when they met anyways....

i don't understand hollywood. a man who left behind him a music legacy needs no movie to make us remeber him. same with artisits who've died. theyve all left soemthing behind much richer and honest than a film depicting what someone "thought" their life was like..
True :) Maybe it would be more easy to stomach if they waited a while before making this..a couple years or whatever. but he just died! That is cashing in on his death i think! I do love bio movies, but I am a total scrutinizing bitch on details and whether I believe it or not. Johnny Cash was cool.

What bullshit. No mortal frame can effectively convey the greatness of Cash. The casting of Witherspoon means they're going to push this as a romance, probably about as effectively as they did with Abbie Hoffman in "Steal This Movie."
Bastards.
Preparations for the upcoming Johnny Cash biopic are proving so successful, producers hope to start shooting the movie in June. Walk The Line - starring Joaquin Phoenix as the country legend who died last year and Reese Witherspoon as his fellow singer wife June Carter Cash - is expected to cost studio giants 20th Century Fox $27 million, and bosses are eager to get cameras rolling as soon as possible. The movie aims to chronicle the star's life, from his beginnings on a cotton farm in Arkansas in the late 1940s, to his early stardom with Sun Records in Memphis alongside Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis.

The one time I worked with Joaquin, he seemed like a nice enough guy. It was just such a weird situation. (.8 mm)
He's a decent actor, and if the flick concentrates going on Cash's early years, he could be a good choice.

Okay, I'm not a huge fan of country music, or rushing to make biopics, but I have a great Johnny Cash story...
I lived in London about 15 years ago, and took a weekend trip to Dublin with some friends. I noticed that Johnny Cash was playing at a small club & begged my friends to go. After much arm twisting & griping, I finally convinced them that this was something they HAD to do & wouldn't regret. So, we went to McShane's, where Johnny did a few killer sets, AND, as an encore, Bono showed up to sing "Ring of Fire" with him.
It fucking rocked! And since he just recently passed, I'm eternally grateful that I got to see him perform in Ireland!

I can't say I know him. I did a scene in a movie with him. So, yeah, I've met him, but I've never hung out with the man.

He's a fairly good actor (not as good as his bro River), but that harelip always distracts me!

LOL Baron, MILK it! I'd wear a t-shirt that says, "Joaquin's Buddy!"
Modesty is so cuteeeeeeee
I think he was awesome in Gladiator. Played the incestuous roman egomaniac quite well. I think he will really become huge.

Yes, he WAS good in "Gladiator" & the movie with Nicole Kidman, where he helps her plot to murder her husband... I forget the name.

To Die For, which put her in one of her most ferocious performances.
Before Rory jumps in with an answer, wasnt it "To Die For"?
