View Full Version : Retard discrimination

Isn't it illegal to cast white people in the role of Native Americans? I remember when little people were furious about the cast of "normals" in LOTR. How can Hollywood continue to get away with casting "normals" as retarded people? For instance, Cuba Gooding Jr. in the film "Radio". I'm sure there were many mentally retarded actors who would have loved the opportunity of that role. Retard discrimination must end!!!

Sure it's funny. Retarded people have a natural comedic talent and that's exactly what Hollywood is exploiting. Can you imagine how it would feel to be mentally retarded sitting at home watching the oscars and a normal wins best actor for pretending to be retarded? It's an outrage!

totally - i think the same goes for straight actors playing gays.... like in party monster - i cant imagine how it felt for anyone really involved in that story seeing seth green and mccully rape the shit out of their characters. they were obviosly mocking them

My date to "Party Monster" lived underneath the guy who was the DJ in "Party Monster". She said he was a major azzhole and pervert and that "Party Monster" did not portray him right.

If you think motion picture budgets are ridiculously high now, imagine how astronomical they would become casting mentally retarded actors. (There's a reason they are referred to as mentally challenged.) The cost of retakes alone would be ludicrous.

Granted, there is precedent for casting the retarded. There was that TV show whose main character had Downs Syndrome. But it's a rarity for this to happen, simply because of the costs involved.

Also, there is only a limited stable of mentally challenged actors. If this weren't the case, I'm sure I would have seen a table for their committee at the annual S.A.G. membership meetings.

If it makes you feel any better, there is usually a large contingency of mentally challenged performers on any movie set. You usually find them spending their day at craft services...

They're called EXTRAS.

Life Goes On, starring Kellie Martin and Chris Burke, who was the one with Downs Syndrome.

CORKY! I used to watch that alot. hehe

Remember when Pierce Brosnan was a native american in that movie? I can't remember the name, but it was just complete crap.
It is more than a step beyond the brits being upset because a yank played "Bridget Jones".

Are you sure about that because all those E! soundbyte segments would have me thinkin' otherwise.

Hmm... Now that you mention it, Dude, you're right. But after making the one-time mistake co-hosting a special for E!*, I have the distinct impression that they employ the retarded in all phases of their behind the camera operations.

*Forgive me. I needed the money.

Yeah, but there's nothing Oscar likes better than a "normal" actor playing a mentally / physically challenged person; Daniel Day Lewis in "My Left Foot", or Sean Penn in that crappy movie he did last year (and someone on FT said they hadn't seen him act so retarded since he was married to Madonna...heh!)

Grey Owl was a real person who was really an Englishman who pretended to be an indian and became one of the 20th century's first environmentalists.

Casting a real native american in the part would have ruined the main thrust of the plot.

I've got to go now. I've spent 5 hours on a bus today and need food and sleep.:D

Let's be nice to Furious today. He's had a long ride on a short bus, and his head's probably sore from the helmet... ;)

(It's all love, D. Welcome back!)

Chompy stayed home. He's been banned from buses since the unfortunate incident...

I know I was supposed to keep him in his cage, but he he stares at me through the bars with those big sad, bloodshot eyes... and then the little bastard chews his way out...

Hellen and ChiChi have just started their first day in Los Angeles. Check out NTWW for the latest.

PS: I did miss you all. I was wondering where all my aggravation went.

It's actually THE GEEN DOOR.

No 'R', and no legally provable connection to certain farmer who had a similar sounding, but differently spelled name.

No, no. You've got it wrong. It's "Furious Geen: The Freaky Machine".

Actually, if any of you had read the "Winnie the Pooh" stories, by A. A. Milne, you would know that Christopher Robin lived behind the green door! :p
