Are you all sitting down?
Well grab the hankie, because it's official... Tom Cruise & Penelope Cruz have ended their 3 year relationship... sob, choke... I just need a minute here...sob, sigh... no, no, I'll be okay...
Well, at least they outlasted Ben & J-Lo...bah, ha, ha, ha! I've never understood the appeal of EITHER Cruise or Cruz, but that's just me.

Dear god Knox, do you live in a cave?
They were almost as overexposed as a couple as Bennifer.
Besides the only reason they were together was because Tom Cruise thought it was the closest way for him to fullfil Nicole's request that he go fuck himself.
An old joke, but worth digging up again.

Well, I never watch TV so I don't really know anything about celebrity couples. I knew they had dated, but didn't know that they were such a "important couple" that they needed to announce that they were seperating.
And no, I don't live in a cave. I live in Quebec ;) Same thing.

Yawn, old news heheh
Penelope Cruz probably was a rebound to Tom, and felt it. I like Tom Cruise as an actor, but what he did to Nicole? He can lick it.

And to add to GiGi's comments... Gimme juicy gossip over negative, right-wing, hate mongering, inferiority complex driven, insulting, inappropriate & unecessary BS any day! At least this has SOMETHING to do with movies!
Ankitovich, you're cordially invited to step off my thread, if you're going to continue to piss people off... very uncool of you!

I'm just getting REALLY tired of people acting like assholes on these boards... it's not the place for it, even if you disagree with someone's post. There's a little thing called manners & maturity, but I guess not everyone posesses those qualities.
I'm just glad the cool people on this forum are backing me up, because this shit is getting tiresome!

Perhaps it's time for the great & powerful Chris Gore and the site admins to post a little reminder about ettiquite for EVERYONE on the FT forum?...

And since it's Friday, and I'm on a rant, here's one more post for anyone who would dare to take me to task on my comments above...
I have NEVER and will NEVER go on this forum with malicious intent, to spread a political agenda, or to pick fights with & hurl obsenities at folks I don't happen to agree with! Yes, I've traded a few barbs with people on the boards, but they're my friends (and you know who you are), so it's all done in the spirit of fun. I know that this forum takes a lot of hard work to maintain, and there are some very cool, passionate, film loving people involved in making this thing a success, and that deserves RESPECT. So, as Sam Jackson said in Pulp Fiction, "Everybody just be cool!".
We now return you to the Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz breakup...
Ellen
I will admit it was a lil shocking when i first heard it, but they didnt seem right together. It must be hard dating in the eye of the public; once it's over, you can't avoid them. They are on TV and magazines with other people! SOmetimes the public will take one side or the other. I really feel for people that way. I guess I shouldnt be so quick to judge.

The Cruise/Cruz relationship was a dream of the Hollywood Machine. Almost everyone in the industry knew it was a p.r. arrangement, because Tom looked like a schmuck after his break-up with Nicole. She was everybody's up-and-coming darling, and he looked like a scumbag. Plus, rumors were circulating about "the love that dare not speak it's name"... The hard-core gossip mills were whispering that the REAL reason for the Cruise/Kidman break-up was that he was gay. Knowing that would have a negative effect on his box office draw, (let's face it, most men aren't running out to see the latest Tom Cruise flick, unless being dragged by a wife or girlfriend,) the Hollywood spin doctors had to hook him up with a beautiful woman... FAST! Enter Penelope Cruz, Tom's co-star in Vanilla Sky. She's young, she's pretty, and she was essentially an unknown to most of America by Hollywood standards. The match up would increase her exposure in the media, and help keep Tom on the A-List as a "he-man." Jump ahead three years, and Tom has a big hit with The Last Samurai. He's back on top with the American box office, so the relationship can be safely discarded.
I've been in the business too long. I know how they think.

Really, the reason Penelope and Tom broke up was that Penelope was untalentled, clinging to Tom to try and keep famous. But then again, Baron is a lot more correct than me...

No, I'd lean toward Baron's judgment on this. What he says, sounds very plausible, considering the way the wheels of Hollywood spin. And when it comes to Hollywood, it's hard to believe that it's really love. Don't forget that those stars are putting on a show off-screen, as well as on.

I don't know how correct I am, but I've made an educated guess. After being in this town for 24 years, and seeing all the ins and outs behind the doors of Hollywood, I'm just proposing a hypothesis.
Hollywood hasn't been about talent for a long, long time. Talk privately to almost any casting director and they'll tell you, talent is about #7 on the list of what they're looking for.

It's a pretty damned educated hypothesis at that.
As for talent, well, that's why we have indie films.
I will play devil's advocate and say no one can "really" know what happened between them unless we know them personally, and maybe not even then!
But as an armchair critc of their romance (how dare I! LOL) I will say they never looked comfy together or right. Just me...I love Nicole and think she got her heart broken. Seems Nicole is becoming a bigger star than tommy boy.

Oh, GiGi, that reminds me. Quick thing about Nicole, that doesn't deal with Mr. Cruise. I'm excited about one of her upcoming roles. "The Producers" is being brought from stage to screen with the stage director, Susan Stroman, making her feature directorial debut. Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick will be in it, but Nicole Kidman will be playing their secretary, Ulla. I can't wait to see how she handles that. And I just read that Will Ferrell is in talks to play the Nazi playwright, Franz Liebkind. Oh, I hope this is going to be a good one.
Oh you know what rory? I read Will Farrell and Nicole were going to do a remake of "I dream of Jeannie" lol
I must be getting some bad info. The Producers would be most EXCELLENT! It's a shame they (Broderick and Lane) are bolting from Broadway again, I wont get to see them. I would have loved to.

Change "I Dream of Jeannie" to "Bewitched" and you're on the right track. Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine have also joined Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell for Bewitched with MacLaine playing Endora and Caine playing Samantha's father.
YES, that's right. Damn Rory, for Jeesy Creesy sake, get yourself on Jeopary! man! Estrogen clouds my memory. Thanks!

Thanks for reminding me, GiGi. I've been meaning to e-mail the game show to ask when they'll have a movie edition on. I can get to Culver City where the Sony Pictures Studios are, and to be on that edition would be absolute heaven for me.
EEE yeah and then use it to produce a movie by gigi von sexkittenstein. :D
Seriously, go for it! You have a huge data base in the ol brain :)

While I agree that her Hollywood films have sucked, you should see her Spanish films. That's the reason she's in Hollywood. She is talented, even if she played a lot of object of affection roles.
If you can, check out these Spanish films:
Belle Epoque: One of Penelope's first starring roles and she plays the romantic heroine nigh on perfectly, in a charming romantic comedy with a talented and sexy cast. Possibly one of the best Spanish films of the last 20 years.
Jamon Jamon: Pretty funny film about one of Spanish films favourite subjects, machoism. Penelope is just damn hot in this film. Also stars two of Spanish hottest and talented exports at the moment, Javier Bardem and Jordi Molla, vying for her affections.
Alegre ma non troppo: One of those swapping beds/banging doors comedies which is pretty funny.
Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes, re-made as Vanilla Sky): Vastly superior to the remake, Penelope is so natural in her role here, you could hardly think she's acting. And she has great chemistry with Eduardo Noriega, much better than she does with Tom Cruise.
La Niņa de tus ojos (The Girl of Your Dreams): Penelope is a part of an ensemble cast about a group of Spanish acting troupe who go to Nazi Germany to make a propaganda film for Joseph Goebbels. Of course, Goebbels falls for her, even though she hates him. Does some great miming and dancing in this film.
Todo sobre mi madre (All About My Mother): Pedro Almodovar's best film (as much as I love Live Flesh and Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down, Kika, Labyrinth of Passion and What Have I Done to Deserve This? Gee, I just love all his films :D ). She plays a nun who becomes pregnant to Cecilia Roth's transvestite ex-husband and is quite down to earth in this film. But it helps it was well-written and directed.
Now, I'm rambling, but I have to admit, I love Penelope, much more in her Spanish stuff than any of her Hollywood films. Now that Tom is gone, Penelope, go back and make some films in Spain so I can admire you some more. :D
I've also outed myself as a Spanish film freak. Damn. ;) :p :D

Hola jmoronic.
Excusame, pero no me gusta penelope Cruz... nunca... me odio ella!
And I have to agree with Baron on his theory.
As for Nicole... she it hotter than hot (especially since the plit with Tom...hmmmm!), and I can't wait to see her in "The Producers" & "The Stepford Wives".
Hasta,
Ellenita
