On December 8th, the American Cinemetheque presents at the Egyptian Theatre the sixth annual Women in Shorts showcase. The program will include:
L.A. Premiere! Lisa Leone’s “Exactly” (10 min). Rosie Perez (FEARLESS) and Sarita Choudhury (MISSISSIPPI MASALA) star in this part comedy of errors, part cautionary tale, about impulsive actions and the consequences that follow. Leone examines the paradoxical nature of friendships and how easily they can come undone.
L.A. Premiere! Jean Strauss’ “Triumvirate” (13 min), based on her award-wining memoir Beneath A Tall Tree, a powerful documentary about the filmmaker’s search and reunion with her birth mother and grandmother.
Genevieve Anderson’s “Ola’s Box of Clovers” (10 min). In this simple story, a granddaughter strives to understand her grandmother’s unfulfilled dreams, following the grandmother’s death. Masterfully told with hand built rod-manipulated puppets.
Terri Edda Miller’s “Dysenchanted” (8 min). Clara, a divorcee from New Jersey finds herself in group therapy with Snow White, Cinderella, Alice In Wonderland, Goldilocks and Dorothy. While life is no fairy tale, it does not mean that Clara’s has to be dysenchanted.
Sikander Goldau’s “Fragile” (20 min), follows one day in which a woman visits the people that she loves most to say goodbye. A hauntingly beautiful, mini-masterpiece about a woman looking back at her life.
L.A. Premiere! Andrea Arnold’s “Wasp” (23 min.), a multi-award winning short about a young single mother with four kids, who after running into a guy she used to date, has to choose between being happy and being responsible. After seeing this short, director Lars Von Trier gave Arnold one million Euros for her first feature film.
The program will screen once at 7:00 PM and again at 9:15 PM. Both programs will feature the same films.
