ARE THE STUDIOS GOING DIGITAL?
With the Yahoo! Internet Life Film Festival taking place in L.A. this week, it was only a matter of time before we saw the marriage of the studios and the burgeoning Internet film world. And while it may not be a trip to the altar, Universal Pictures partnering with reelshort.com, a New York City-based digital entertainment company, might be a sign of things to come.
The newly-formed partnership between Universal Pictures and reelshort.com, includes an undisclosed equity investment in reelshort.com and alows the website to leverage Universal’s resources (does that mean free trips to the studio tour?). Meanwhile, Universal gets a foot in the door with reelshort.com’s connections to the New York City independent film community and the site’s relationships with emerging filmmaking talent
reelshort.com invites filmmakers of all backgrounds to submit work from 30 seconds to 40 minutes in length. Submission forms can be found at the reelshort.com website or by calling 212.809.3202.
