FILM THREAT’S “WHAT THE ?!@%! DOES ‘THE FOUNTAIN’ MEAN?” CONTEST

On November 22, 2006, Darren Aronofsky’s latest cinematic endeavor, “The Fountain,” hits theaters everywhere. Out of respect for Darren and his film, we at Film Threat are offering the What the ?!@%! Does “The Fountain” Mean?” Contest.
Critics and audiences alike have found “The Fountain” to be confusing at times, and in many cases have stepped away with differing explanations of what happens in the film, and what it all means in a larger philosophical sense. Since there’s nothing better than a film that makes you think, Film Threat will be offering the following prizes to the folks who can come up with the best explanation, both entertaining and/or philosophical, for the events of “The Fountain.”

The prizes? How about:

Grand Prize
One (1) 8″ Dagger Letter Opener (only 100 were made, making this a collector’s item of the highest rarity)
One (1) “Tree of Life” Mini Snow Globe
Second Place
One (1) 6″ Brass Hourglass
One (1) “Tree of Life” Mini Snow Globe
Third Place
One (1) Darren Aronofsky Autographed Poster
One (1) “Tree of Life” Mini Snow Globe
Honorable Mentions
One (1) “Tree of Life” Mini Snow Globe (to be awarded to two different winners)

The winners will be determined by the editorial staff of Film Threat, and there is, technically, no right or wrong answer, just what subjectively impressed the FT staff the most. So if you’ve seen “The Fountain,” take a shot! Go to the Support page of Film Threat, select Suggestions, Other (type in “Fountain” contest”) and fill out the remaining fields and Submit. The contest will end on November 27, 2006 and the winners will be notified shortly thereafter.

Sound good? Now, some info about the film:

“The Fountain” is an odyssey about one man’s eternal struggle to save the woman he loves. His epic journey begins in 16th-century Spain, where conquistador Tomas (HUGH JACKMAN) commences his search for the Fountain of Youth, the legendary entity believed to grant immortality. As modern-day scientist Tommy Creo, he desperately struggles to find a cure for the cancer that is killing his beloved wife, Isabel (RACHEL WEISZ). Traveling through deep space as a 26th-century astronaut, Tom begins to grasp the mysteries that have consumed him for a millennium. The three stories converge into one truth, as the Thomas of all periods-warrior, scientist, and explorer-comes to terms with life, love, death and rebirth.

“The Fountain” will be released domestically by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. This film has been rated “PG-13″ for “some intense sequences of violent action, some sensuality and language.
