NEW BEVERLY CINEMA OWNER DIES
Los Angeles has lost a hero. New Beverly Cinema owner Sherman Torgan died July 18th of a heart attack. For years, the New Beverly has been home sweet home for many a Los Angeles movie nerd who constantly crave seeing old favorites and hard-to-find oddities on the big screen as this revival house has screened classic double features for nearly thirty years now. A couple of our favorite double bills have been “Evil Dead 2” with “Dead Alive,” and “Santa Sangre” with “Salo.” The theater is also the home of the year-round Grindhouse Film Festival.
