BARDOT COMES TO DVD

Home Vision Entertainment, the premier distributor of foreign and classic feature films in North America, is launching a collection of DVDs under the Home Vision Entertainment label. HVE will premiere four films starring the international sex symbol Brigitte Bardot including Plucking the Daisy, The Night Heaven Fell, Don Juan (Or If Don Juan Were a Woman), and Spirits of the Dead. This seminal collection of French Language films, sold separately, will include new widescreen digital transfers, enhanced for 16×9 televisions, original theatrical trailers, liner notes by film critic Chris Gore, deluxe animated menus and more.
In 2002, Liv Ullmann’s epic love story Kristin Lavransdatter and Private Confessions, directed by Ullmann and written by Ingmar Bergman, will feature new widescreen digital transfers, enhanced for 16×9 televisions, original theatrical trailers, interviews with the director and much more.
As the distributor for The Criterion Collection, producers of special edition DVDs, “Home Vision Entertainment’s DVDs will supplement and complement the library of classics and contemporary films they share,” explains Adrianne Furniss, President and CEO of Home Vision. “Home Vision Entertainment carries a broad line of quality entertainment outside of the feature film arena.” In August, HVE will release Heritage: Civilization and the Jews, a nine-part documentary series produced by Thirteen/WNET, New York’s public television station, on VHS and in a DVD package that will include three linear disks and an interactive DVD Rom. Home Vision Entertainment will also release programs from the BBC Arts line on DVD, including the outstanding documentary Jackson Pollock: Love and Death on Long Island, featuring observations by director/actor Ed Harris. This, along with a BBC film on Robert Crumb and a three-part series on great architects, including Frank Gehry, called Master Builders, will street in 2002.
Home Vision Entertainment has released the VHS versions of The Criterion Collection/HVE library; utilizing many of the same source materials, and like their partners, adhere to the filmmaker’s original vision. “Since we’ve been handling ours and The Criterion Collection’s sales, marketing and PR for many years, we understand the advantages of a higher standard of excellence in home entertainment,” says Steve Riforgiato, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Home Vision’s move to DVD simply continues that longstanding tradition.”
Emmy nominated producer Sonia Rosario, Vice President of Home Vision Entertainment’s DVD production, believes, “Withstanding the test of time is fundamental.
