HYPERBOLE OF THE WEEK
The cover jacket for the new DVD release of “The Planet of the Apes” TV series laughably reads… ^ “THE SERIES THAT CHANGED THE FACE OF TELEVISION FOREVER!”
Um, how exactly did the show change television forever? Other than featuring talking humans, a dramatic difference from the first “Planet of the Apes” film, we can’t quite figure out what the hell they’re talking about? And we’d like to know precisely how television was altered after the debut of the “Apes” show? Is the television industry still feeling the effects of the influence this incredible series? These are legitimate questions after making so bold a claim.
It is one thing to print reviews from quote-friendly film critics for some awful movies, but this is just hysterical. Why don’t they just say “The Greatest Television Series of All-Time Finally Comes To DVD”? To borrow a phrase from Bart Simpson, “It’s Craptacular!”
