JAZZ MAN JIMMY SCOTT AT THE EGYPTIAN

On Tuesday, July 16th, 2002 at 7:30PM, the American Cinematheque will screen “Jimmy Scott: If You Only Knew” (2002, Celebrity Ashtray Prod./Tree Media Group, 77 min.)
directed by Matthew Buzzell. For over five decades, jazz vocalist Jimmy Scott has amazed music lovers, critics and his peers with his incredibly unique phrasing and radiant, almost angelic stage presence. Fresh from its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, the new doc is a beautiful and affectionate portrait of Scott’s art and life — from his mother’s tragic early death, his emergence as a major jazz artist in the 1950′s, through Scott’s missing years in the 1970′s when he withdrew from music, to his triumphant return in the last two decades in a series of sold-out concerts and superb albums of jazz standards
