“The Collector” is a sharp, b&w film that unnerves and disturbs, as if David Cronenberg had to cram a horror film into seven minutes. It’s told mostly silently with no dialogue and is about a street bully who pushes around the wrong meek pedestrian. The gritty b&w adds to the stark tone of the film, which plays like a low-budget version of “Seconds” with an appropriately creepy musical score. We’ve got talented writer/dirctor Benton Jew to thank for a horror genre exercise in a format that rarely sees it — definitely someone to look out for in the future.
