Jean Reno and Juliette Binoche are on auto-pilot in this throwaway romantic comedy. All the snappy dialogue in the world can’t rescue this tried-and-true story, although screenwriters Christopher and Danièle Thompson (the latter also directs) do their best.
Reno is a stressed-out frozen-foods magnate. Binoche is a gold-hearted beautician looking to escape a bad relationship. They keep meeting while their flights are delayed in Paris. They go through the standard Mars/Venus verbal spars, leave, then keep coming back to one another. On the way, they learn things about themselves and suddenly want to become better people.
This film will probably appeal to some North Americans because of the talent involved (that and the fact it’s French). Don’t be fooled – this film is a sticky piece of cinematic merde.
