I can honestly say that Water Pest has an original premise that I’ve never seen before.  A man and a woman are on a first date when the woman pulls out knifes and machine guns—arming herself for an assassination.  The weaponry isn’t enough to scare the guy off but the creature she’s come to destroy might be.

This four-minute short is briskly-paced and entertaining.  The action is comedic and the dialogue is even funnier.  The film reaches its peak when the woman (Williams) tells her date (Marcelin) that they’re headed to the pool.  Mind you, she’s still holding the artillery.  He responds with this canon-worthy dialogue:  “Now!  That’s what I’m talkin’ about!  Yeah!  See, that’s what I’m talking about!  Skinny dipping!  Freaky deaky!”

Corey A. Burkes, the film’s writer and director, successfully incorporates low budget CGI into the film without weakening the film.  In most cases, post-production effects like these are distracting and can cheapen the overall film.  But in Pest, it adds to the absurdity of the premise.  Burkes turns a swimming pool into the Bellagio fountains and it’s great.  Water Pest is surprisingly enjoyable.  It’s over-the-top and worth showing to your friends.
