Boy, I tell ya – nothin’ like wandering into an experimental film when you’re not expecting it. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy experimental films…when they’re good. But when the experiment isn’t all too interesting, then watching 80 minutes of it is asking a great deal of an audience.
“Sugar” takes place entirely in a tiny, filthy apartment as a woman suffering from…problems…obsessively cleans, makes pudding and plays with a dead body she uncovers. What’s it all mean? Well, after 80 minutes, who cares? Because in the end, no matter what the true meaning behind all of this is, you’ve just sat and watched someone freak out in their apartment for over an hour. Not fun.
