Comedian Patton Oswalt has a dream. He wants to bring comedy to the people without forcing them to pay the huge cover charge and two-drink minimum. Thus a comedy tour is born as Oswalt packs Zach Galifianakis, Maria Bamford and Brian Posehn into an RV to bring the show on the road. Director Michael Blieden has the enviable task of trying to keep up with the insanity and pull it all together to make a cohesive film and he completely and totally succeeds.

It wouldn’t do the comedy justice to even try and write about the goings on in the three state tour. Between the stand-up routines and the day to day craziness, there’s hardly a chance to catch your breath. Yet throughout the film you never feel like these comics are trying to out-funny one another or that they’re playing to the camera. They’re just four funny friends having a blast and the audience is lucky enough to be along for the ride.

It’s probably not fair to pick favorites, but damn it, Zack Galifianakis nearly steals the show. The guy is a genius and, as I already suspected before “Comedians of Comedy,” he’s really weird. But his strangeness is infectious and he brings out the best in the other comics. It was also fun to see how Galifianakis comes up with jokes because he always seems to attract strangeness. Come to find out he really does attract strangeness and somehow fits it into his act.

All Galifianakis ass-kissing aside, each comic onscreen here is unique and hilarious. Michael Blieden does a great job on the four camera shoot and really shapes “Comedians of Comedy” into a fun, structured ride. With over 150 hours of footage, I can’t wait for the DVD which is sure to be packed with extras…including the money shot from a Galifianakis/Posehn fake gay porn movie. You’ll have to wait to see what I’m talking about.
