The 6th Annual RxSM Self-Medicated Film Expo (RxSM), unfolds once again this year alongside (but completely independently of) South by Southwest, in Austin, Texas. RxSM shines a bright spotlight on talented filmmakers in the thick of the busy festival circuit. Each March, thousands of cinephiles descend on Austin to get a glimpse of the incredibly inspired work being done in indie cinema, and RxSM is eager to provide screenings for films passed over by the official film conference.
From beginning to end, RxSM is dedicated to edgy, boundary-expanding storytelling that falls well outside of the mainstream. Founded, organized, programmed and promoted by filmmakers who can’t help but think outside of the box. RxSM offers valuable programming opportunities to the first-time (and truly independent) filmmaker, and hosts fantastic parties that last well into the night.
RxSM not only offers films opportunities to screen at a very advantageous time in Austin, it also funnels great films to programmers at Film Exchange—an international network of film festivals with venues in New Orleans, Louisiana; Victoria, Texas; Corpus Christi, Texas; Marfa, Texas; Las Vegas, Nevada and Berlin Germany.
WHAT THE FILMMAKERS ARE SAYING
"We had the honor of screening our film at RxSM 2014 and were able to invite a distributor who was in town for SXSW. I don't know when else we would have gotten him to see the film in a theater, but, by seeing it in front of an enthusiastic audience, his interest was piqued and he picked up our film for theatrical and digital distribution! It is no overstatement to say that RxSM directly and invaluably changed the future of our film. This team really and truly puts the filmmaker first!"…Naomi McDougall Jones, dir. IMAGINE I’M BEAUTIFUL
